The risk factors of spreading of HIV-infections in correcting establishments of the Republic of Belarus

Background: Study of the opinion about the risk factors of HIV spreading among prisoners.
Methods: Sociological study, n=528. The mistake of sample (Δ) was 0.02.
Results: The level of awareness is much lower among people in age groups after 30 years old, and also among people with low educational level. The majority of the respondents marked ways to be infected by HIV: common use of drugs (94.1 %); sexual contacts without condom (91.8 %); transfusion of blood (91 %); drawing tattoo (90.6 %); hit of the infected blood on a wound (89.8 %); usage common edges for shave (80.9 %). About 10 % interrogated had homosexual contacts. The majority of them are single people who never consisting in a marriage. Only 13% of homosexuals used condoms, others 87 % did not use condoms because of their inaccessibility. There are 50 % of the respondents uses common machine tools for shave. And 7.7 % of them do not disinfect it any way; 28.7 % wash it with water; 21.8 % wash it with hot water and soap; 21.1 % pour boiled water over the machine tool, 11.4 % immerse it in a solution of a disinfectant and 9.3 %. There are 16.6 % of the respondents mark that there is an opportunity to get or to prepare drugs in their prison. There are 13.7 % of the interrogated prisoners who knew about cases of the use injection drugs in prison. And there are all elements of injection risk, such as a set of a drug from common capacity (73.2 %), sharing of syringes (68.3 %) and transfer of the syringe to another (51.2 %).
Conclusions: There are real risk factors of spreading of HIV in prisons of Belarus by drawing tattoo, using drugs and common tools for shave, by homosexual contacts.
