Visa Requirements

Please note that it is the delegate's responsibility to investigate the visa requirements for South Africa and apply for visa, if necessary.

Full information regarding visa requirements is available at: http://www.home-affairs.gov.za/visa_detail.asp.

Any queries relating to visas are handled by the South African missions or representative office in your country or the nearest one situated to you. Visas are considered by the South African missions abroad and must be affixed in the applicants' passports before departing to the South Africa.

Visas are not issued on arrival at South African ports of entry. Applicants arriving without visas will be refused entry and placed on return flights in terms of legislation.

The list of South African representations abroad is available at: http://www.dfa.gov.za/foreign/sa_abroad/index.htm. If you do not have South African representation in your country you will need to travel to another country to obtain your visa in advance of travelling to Cape Town.

A list of countries exempt from visas for South Africa is available at: http://www.home-affairs.gov.za/visa_schedule.asp. If you are not from a country subject to visa requirements you still need a valid acceptable passport or travel document good for a sufficient period to cover the intended stay, sufficient funds, a return or onward ticket and at least two blank pages in your passport.

If you require a visa to enter South Africa, your visa application will need to be accompanied by an official Letter of Invitation from the conference organizers. You may request this through the online registration system or by contacting the IAS 2009 Registration Department.
